Sally Susman
Senior Vice President, Policy, External Affairs & Communications
Sally Susman is Senior Vice President, Policy, External Affairs and Communications, for Pfizer Inc, the world's leading research-based biopharmaceutical company. She is a member of the company's executive leadership team.
Ms. Susman leads Pfizer's strategic communications, U.S. federal government relations, policy initiatives and the corporate responsibility group. In these capacities, Ms. Susman effectively communicates the company's mission, values and product news to its stakeholder audiences around the world, oversees worldwide media relations, colleague communications, corporate branding and reputation, and corporate advertising; designs and executes the company's legislative priorities; shapes policy initiatives; and leads Pfizer's social investment strategies. She is also Chair of the Pfizer Political Action Committee and a member of the board of directors of the Pfizer Foundation, which works to promote access to quality health care, to nurture innovation and to support the community involvement of Pfizer employees.
Before joining Pfizer in 2007, Ms. Susman was Executive Vice President for Global Communications at The Estýe Lauder Companies Inc., where for seven years she directed global communications strategy for the corporation and its 28 brands. Ms. Susman served as a member of the Executive Committee, served as company spokeswoman and was responsible for the company's media relations, employee communications and consumer relations.
Ms. Susman has also held several high-level communications and government relations posts at American Express Company. She directed media relations, internal communications and governmental affairs for all of American Express's international operations and expanded its online presence in the United States. From 1995 to 1997, she was based in London, where she was responsible for corporate communications and government relations for American Express throughout Europe.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Susman spent eight years in government service focused on international trade issues. Her positions included Deputy Assistant Secretary for Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs in the U.S. Department of Commerce and Legislative Assistant for the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.
Ms. Susman holds a B.A. from Connecticut College; she spent a year studying at the London School of Economics.
Ms. Susman is a Commissioner on the New York City Commission on Women's Issues, a position to which she was appointed by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. She is a Trustee of Connecticut College and the New School University. Ms. Susman also serves on the boards of the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation and The National Partnership for Women and Families.
She lives with her family in New York City.
